Crysta is a new payment method that can be used to purchase playtime for Final Fantasy XIV and other Square Enix online games. The intent is to provide a secure method for paying for subscriptions and security tokens. The points will be available for purchase in the US, EU, and Japan.

In the future, Squre Enix plans to let customers use Crysta for additional goods/services. Crysta can be purchased online through sites such as Paypay, and at physical locations like Gamestop. Here is a table of the conversation rate for Crysta.

  • 500 Crysta – $5/£-€ 5/€5
  • 1,000 Crysta – $10/£10/€10
  • 2,000 Crysta – $20/£20/€20
  • 3,000 Crysta – $30/£30/€30
  • 5,000 Crysta – $50/£50/€50
  • 10,000 Crysta – $100/£100/€100

One issue Square Enix customer’s are raising is that the Crysta is being sold without doing any currency conversation. You get the same amount of Crysta for $1 as you do for £1. Also, you can only buy it only in increments of 5, and a month of FFXIV costs $12.95. Thusly, you would have to buy 200 extra Crysta just to purchase a month of playtime. This should be less of an issue when Crysta can be used to purchase additional goods/services.
