World of Warcraft Addiction or Demonic Possession?

Posted on Friday, August 14th, 2009 and filed under Fun Stuff.

Is this WoW addiction, or demonic possession?  Mogs.com does not have a priest to perform an exorcism, and we are not addiction specialists either, but we are pretty sure this kid needs some help.   This YouTube video really makes one wonder, WoW addiction, demonic possession, or perhaps both?  You be the judge.  Let us know what you think!

Netbook GAMING?

Posted on Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 and filed under Fun Stuff.

I’ve recently decided to sell my LAN box and in it’s place buy a new EEEPC 1000HE. Over the past few years, I’ve begun to do less PC gaming, more console gaming, and strayed away from larger machines. So I was after something very small and inexpensive with great battery life. The new 1000HE met all of these criteria; 10.1″ screen, Intel Atom N280, 160gb hard drive, upgradeable to 2gb of memory, weight around 3 lbs with the battery. Straight out of the box I swapped in a 2gb ram chip, installed Windows 7 and began tweaking it to my liking. I must say it’s very impressive for having only cost me $395 in total. It multitasks well, runs Aero, allows me to browse the web, and use chat programs, but how well does it game? Well as expected, it lacks in that department. The Intel 945 chipset isn’t known for mind blowing performance. However I did some research and discovered some very helpful tips and tools that have drastically increased framerates and allowed me to run games that would not run previously.

First: Download modded graphics drivers for the chipset, or manually mod them yourself if you’re savvy. They can be found at the link below along with everything else I am covering.

Second: Download GMAbooster. By this point you should already see a performance increase.

Third: Overclock the N280 using SetFSB. In today’s world, overclocking is a simple task even for those who aren’t as tech-inclined as others. My 1000HE is currently clocked at 1.83ghz, up from the stock 1.67ghz ,with very little increase in heat or loss of battery life.

To run a few games that wouldn’t run under normal circumstances, use 3DAnalyze. There are other emulation programs discussed as well at the link I posted. These tools and tips are not exclusive to the EEEPC, one can use them on any netbook or laptop with the Intel 9XX chipset. On a side note, ReadyBoost works very well in Windows 7 with the 1000HE. I’m using a 4gb USB drive fully dedicated and I have a noticeable increase in application launch speed. If all you really wanted to know was, does WoW run well on a netbook? The answer is YES.

Best Warcraft Machima. EVER.

Posted on Sunday, July 19th, 2009 and filed under Fun Stuff.

It’s hard to believe in this day of playing Warcraft from your iPhone that there might still be a few lost souls who haven’t seen this greatest piece of Machinima known to man. “The Craft of War: Blind” by Percula has been floating around the internet for a while now, but apparently the video’s host (Vimeo) removed the video citing there terms of service against “game play footage”.

Well no worries, the video is back up and posted in all its glory. “Percula”, the creator, has crafted a short film filled with intense action that demonstrates his fantastic artistic ability. There is a lot of machinima out there that makes me giggle, or cringe, but this is the first Warcraft Video I have seen that really got me interested.

Celebrities Love Warcraft

Posted on Saturday, March 14th, 2009 and filed under Fun Stuff, MMORPG Issues.

Have you ever wondered about the guy, currently tanking your 25 man Naxx group, that you have raided with since release? Or maybe it’s 4:00 in the morning and you’re PvP’ing with a crazy 29 twink in Warsong Gulch. They probably don’t talk much in vent or have erratic play schedules, but when they are there they put the work in and get the job done.

Let’s face it, I’ve raided Warcraft since release and I have heard every “Can’t make it” and “Have to go” excuse in the book. Everything from “oh crap my cat is choking afk” to my favorite flat out router unplug. But then again, I haven’t raided with Steve Preeg or PvP’d with Mila Kunis.

What happens when your guild leader says “Sorry guys I can’t run Heroic Naxx tonight, I have to go pickup this Oscar thing at the Academy Awards”.

Steve Preeg has worked on the digital effects team of some pretty big movies, including the Lord of the Rings trilogy and I, Robot. The World of Warcraft guild he leads has cleared all WOTLK endgame content so far except Sartharion, and (current endgame aside) that’s pretty impressive. This year at the 81st Annual Academy Awards his small digital effects team took home Oscars in the visual effects category for the (incredibly creepy) work they did on Brad Pitt for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, beating the other contenders, The Dark Knight and Iron Man.

Then there’s Mila Kunis, ohhhhhh Mila. You may remember her as Jackie from That 70′s Show or Meg from Family Guy. No? Maybe there’s a couple other little movies you might have heard of, Forgetting Sarah Marshal or Max Payne? Ahhh… Now you remember, that’s right, Mila Kunis.

She is Warcraft addicted. There I said it. She completely geeked out over World of Warcraft while promoting Max Payne last year on Jimmy Kimmel and not only does she play, but she runs a twink in the 19-29 battlegrounds and looks incredibly cute talking about it.

She’s currently dating Macaulay Culkin and he has an 80 paladin or something, but forget about that. Mila, he can’t PvP like I can. “Home Alone” can bring it, 19-29, 80, or if he wants to get crazy.. I have a level 1 twink bank alt I’ve been working on. Just let me know.

Google tells me that other celebrity World of Warcraft players include Dave Chappelle, William Shatner, Jay Mohr, Matt and Trey Parker, and Robin Williams.

The Titans of Eve

Posted on Friday, February 27th, 2009 and filed under Fun Stuff, Game News.

Over the years we have heard customers speak of the Titan ships in Eve Online.  I jumped into the game finally, and though a noob, what a fascinating game this is.  Certainly not for the intellectually challenged.  If you are a moron you may want to back out now and hook up some old school paddles from the late 70’s and pong yourself to stardom.  As I started my adventure in Eve, I was so curious about the Titans I started looking them up and even got some help from a customer who knows his EVE.  Anyway, to make a potentially long blog short, here are the four races and their respectful Titans.  I also thought a quick image of a Doomsday device being used by a Titan would be interesting.  Each Titan has a Doomsday device and each is unique.  I’d love to hear your thoughts on these ships or if you have more images please send them to dan@mogs.com.

I'm Still Addicted to Left 4 Dead

Posted on Thursday, February 26th, 2009 and filed under Fun Stuff, Game News.

Zombies, shotguns, and a hundred more screaming flesh hungry zombies.  What could be better?  It’s no lie that I’m an FPS fanatic, but even if you aren’t that into the genre, I believe Left 4 Dead is enjoyable for all.  A simple no-brainer (see what I did there?) arcade style shoot ‘em up from Valve, the creators of Half-Life.  Left 4 Dead was released for PC on November 18th, 2008, so if you haven’t picked it up yet and you enjoy a good FPS, then don’t miss out on this one.
