Rogue/Druid Vs. Hunter/Druid

Posted on Tuesday, October 28th, 2008 and filed under Fun Stuff.

Hey WoW fanatics, just stopping by the blog to post another PVP video of Eldruidian and me.  This week it’s Hunter/Druid vs. Druid/Rogue.  I went with this video because it’s a lot different than Warrior/Shaman and it shows how the combo is meant to work with heavy crowd control and tons of manna draining.  This is much harder to use against a Druid due to forms than any other healing class. Another great thing about this video is it shows just how quickly you can lose your ground in arena matches. See you all next week with one of our best videos yet!

Thank you Eldruidian for all your help I know I can be a pain :)

Runescape Gold is Back at Mogs.com

Posted on Monday, October 27th, 2008 and filed under Game News.

Runescape 2 is back at Mogs.com! The game favorite of so many younger people and many adults was offered at Mogs.com for quite some time until some updates were added that somewhat killed the way the gold was farmed and ultimately even delivered. Trading large amounts of currency became a real challenge and eventually you saw the game vanish from most major sites.  The number of people playing this game is insane with its format and graphics, but alas people love the game and it has a huge following, could it be because it is free to have an account and play on free worlds and free PVP? Or for 5 bucks a month you can enjoy some of the other skills like construction and farming.

I recall a customer who was a prospector and would buy gold by the 100’s of millions so that he could build homes in the game. He’d would essentially level his toons and build the homes and sell off the accounts. Runescape allows you to level your woodcutting ability, which is by far one of the most boring endeavors one could ever undertake. However, once you reach certain levels in the game you are able to combine several of the skills/ Woodcutting allows you to produce logs from a variety of trees, which can be made into planks once your construction levels are high enough. You will also need nails. Mining allows you to mine ore which can be smelted into blocks and made into nails or armor. From all of this you can eventually build your home and furnish it with beds and chairs, book cases and even rugs. Some of the real prizes in the game our the rare Party hats! Get some of these on your toon and your character’s real world value will skyrocket!

So Runescape is back at Mogs and the orders are rolling in again. Hopefully we will soon be able to place gold on a toon with a less than 90 combat level, but for now you have to have at least level 90 in combat. Once you Buy Runescape Gold you can buy the right logs, purchase a bunch of Yew logs and make the home of your dreams right there is RS2 without wasting months trying to cut down the right tree! If you really want to obtain something rare, find yourself a party hat!

Star Trek Online and SCI-FI MMO's of 2009

Posted on Sunday, October 12th, 2008 and filed under Game News, MMORPG Issues.

Star Trek Online and SCI-FI MMO’s of 2009!

Star Trek Online is currently being developed by Cryptic Studios and do for release sometime in the Fall of 2009. It will be interesting to see how a new Sci-Fi MMO will do.  Star Wars Galaxies has remained a fairly well played game despite the changes that were made to the classes and EVE-Online continues to grow in popularity. Tabula Rasa seemed to come and go with seemingly little interest from the community. What kind of game will STO be and will it be the Sci-fi answer so many gamers are looking for?

Star Trek Online brings with it an enormous franchise history.  The TV show has introduced us to several Federation Captains and numerous species such as Vulcans, Klingons,  Andorians, and the ever swindling Ferengi, to name a few. These species have all been included in the character selection in STO. The list goes on, and one of the most interesting aspects of the game is in creating your character. Rather than simply picking a species and some general features, you will be able to mix and match with other species. Don’t like the Antennae of the Andorians’, you can keep the basic features of the Andorians and delete the antenna and add a Klingon forehead and maybe some Vulcan ears, in essence creating your own and unique species all together. The idea of developing your own species sounds pretty cool to me it will certainly add a little something to the game and a whole lot of guess work on who or what your are fighting!

Star Trek Online is also going to essentially put you in the Captain’s chair. The Bridge crew works with you and is necessary for all of the ships maintenance systems, tactical, etc.  “…these unique individuals act like pets in other MMOs. Each one is player-controlled, but AI driven. Whether science officer or security chief, each character has his or her own unique stats, race, and areas of specialty.” (Gameinformer # 186). Starting out you will start with a smaller ship and as you progress in the game could wind up with a science vessel similar to Voyager or a Galaxy Class Flag Ship like Enterprise-D! Space combat in STO looks to be a pretty cool experience, with some potential to almost act like Pirates fighting in the sea of space.  Plenty of worlds, nebulas and ultimately space to explore in this game!

Next year looks like it will be a busy year with Sci-Fi  MMO’s . Jumpgate Evolution, Stargate Worlds, Earthrise, and Star Trek Online are all coming out in 2009. All look to have some promise, I for one will be happy to see some new and intriguing Sci-Fi MMO’s for some us gamers who like the Sci-Fi edge over the fantasy realm.  Being a fan of Star Trek and all of its series, STO has a lot of appeal to me, especially the idea of running into and fighting a Borg Sphere or Cube…I wonder if the Borg Diamond will make an appearance, at any rate It looks good and I can’t wait to be assimilated!

Aion: The Tower of Eternity

Posted on Sunday, October 5th, 2008 and filed under Game News.

Aion: The Tower of Eternity is a new mmorpg that is in development by NCsoft, creators of City of Heroes, Guild Wars, Lineage, and Tabula Rasa. Aion is a visually stunning game that is going to take combat to the third dimension, the skies. Equipped with beautiful environments, complete character customization, and basic, yet fulfilling classes, Aion is going to be a game to take a look at.

Aion takes place on the world of Atreia. A world that was once whole but is now split in half because of an “ancient cataclysm”. Each half of the shattered world is inhabited by one of the two playable classes, the Elyos and the Asmodian. Isolated by the cataclysm that broke Atreia apart, each side stuck on catastrophic events that reminds them on how much they hate the other faction. As time went on fragments of the destroyed tower began to create portals which connected both sides of the world. When the Elyos and Asmodian discovered the connection, war ensued. Upon the portals opening connecting the two halves of the world, other portals connected Atreia to the Abyss, a world that houses an ancient terror that was banished there long ago, the Balaur. With the Balaur ravaging the lands, players not only have to defend their portion of Atreia not only from the ancient terror, but also from the opposing faction.

Aion takes character customization to a whole new level. When creating a new character not only will you be able to change the basics that you see in normal mmorpg such as face, hair style, skin tone, etc.. Aion lets you customize your character’s jaw bone, nose size, chest, waist, calf, thighs, forearms, and many other parts of the body. Allowing you to have a completely unique character. Also you will be able to completely customize all your weapons and armor. Beef up cloth armor to look like plate, fool your opponents of your class at first glance, customize your weapons to look how ever you like. The game is trying to dip where non-other has before.

As for classes, Aion only offers 4; Warrior, Scout, Mage, and Priest. NCsoft broke the game down to the basics but still allows for some diversity. Once your character reaches level 10 each class splits down two different paths allowing for an easier learning curve for beginning players. Warriors can choose the path of the Gladiator or of the Templar. Gladiator’s are the skilled weapon masters, that take on the characteristics of the weapon they wield. The Templar are the guardian’s of the game, wielding sword and shield to protect friends and using chants and incantations to protect and heal allies. Scouts choose between the path of the Ranger or the Assassin. Rangers are expert archers, also excelling in close combat, and they can utilize the environment to survive even the harshest of environments. Assassins on the other hand are quick, quiet and move through the shadows to sneak up on their enemies and dispose of the quickly. Mages are split between the path of the Sorcerer and of the Spiritmaster. The Sorcerer channels the power of water, fire, air and earth into their enemies. Spiritmasters summon huge pets into Atreia to battle, being one of the more difficult paths to take in the game. Priests can choose between the path of the Cleric or the Chanter. Cleric’s are able to resurrect, heal allies, and fight in close combat wielding mace and shield. Chanter’s are all about duty and faith, who strengthens your allies and raise their morale. A good chanter on your side can boost your side and turn the entire battle.

As for combat, Aion is taking it to a whole new level, into the sky. Both races have the ability to fly, allowing players to take to the skies. Now not only are you going to be looking around you watching for enemies, but also above you. This adds a whole new approach on combat, allowing one to take the skies to flee, or take the skies to gain an advantage on their opponent. Aerial combat is a huge part of the game and is what will separate Aion from all other fantasy genre mmorpgs.

Aion will be a game to look out for in the next coming years. Right now they do not have a release date, but in hopes beta openings will begin in within the next year. NCsoft has an excellent concept with great intentions, if they play their cards right this will be a game that will soar above the next gen mmo’s.

KOTOR Online To Be Announced This Month?

Posted on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 and filed under Game News.

Ready for some more MMORPG flavoured speculation? Bioware are rumored to be preparing to announce their Knights of the Old Republic MMORPG later this month, ending year long speculation about the development of a KOTOR MMO. Whilst this would be the first official announcement of the game, plenty of hints have been dropped and indirect remarks about the title made by EA boss John Riccitiello.

If you were to trace rumors of this game back in time it would probably preceed EverQuest, Ultima Online and the invention of the lightbulb. It makes you wonder if these early rumors had any basis, or whether the basis for the game was the magnitude of the rumors. Chicken or the egg? We’re not sure.

The introduction of KOTOR Online (or whatever they decide to name it) will hopefully atone for the sins of Star Wars Galaxies; perhaps the worst MMORPG ever made, given the IP they had to work with (or perhaps Matrix Online? Answers on a postcard please!). But even if it does not, it’s certain to have a big impact on the MMORPG landscape and have 40 year old amateur jedis across the world clutching their Yoda dolls in anticipation.

Warrior/ Shaman PvP Action

Posted on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 and filed under Fun Stuff.

Hey all you WoW heads out there, just coming to the blog to show off some of my PvP action. This video is of me and my druid buddy playing 2v2 against a Shaman/Warrior on the server Mannoroth. Hunter/Druid is our combo. I wanted to post these vids to show you that if you put in the time and effort you are bound to get better.

The first video is one of our earlier games, to show that we started off like most WoW players, good… but not masters. Next week’s video will feature a Hunter killing a Rogue with Warglaives. I really hope these videos will help you see that you don’t go from 1500 to 2k in one night. It takes time and effort and a whole lot of patience.

Lastly, please be gentle, this was one of our earlier games, so there are some obvious mistakes in our strategy. These posts are to show that if you keep at it you get better… not to pump my epeen.

And a big thanks to  Eldruidian for  putting up with my crap.

Next video coming soon…
